Guy Kawasaki Top 10 Conspiracy

Guy Kawasaki is planning on taking over the blogosphere. I have proof!!!

Guy as Dr Evil Link.png

Beyond the strange resemblance to Dr. Evil, there are all the suspicious things that Guy does:

He writes lots of top ten lists. We all know that Top 10 Lists are the key to high digg rankings

He writes a lot about lies, and the lying liars who tell them. CEO lies, VC lies. Maybe Guy is a geek version of Dr. Phil and he can get a good read on people fast. Maybe he’s just trying to create massive traffic.

Guy has all these books that give straighforward advice on how to get rich….er…. how to start a great technology company…. and get rich. Wealth, power and endless video games. Clear proof he is trying to generate lots of interest.

Still not convinced… ok… here’s the real proof.

A few days ago, I blogged about Majikwidget. Majikwidget was put together by Mike J Solutions, with input directly from Guy. The Majikwidget is a Mashet. That is, it’s a widget that is designed to mash functionality servered up from one server into content served up by a second server.

Majikwidget is the coolest thing since sliced bread. There are several reasons why:

Mashets and Blogs.png

  • Majikwidget gives you the tools to add drop interactive mashets into your blog posts, dramatically increasing the scope of what can be done in a blog. Now you can get structured feedback in the from of a poll or a vote on the quality of the post. In time, this can be extended to add tools that let enterprise users interact with legacy systems. Best of all, the mashet data is stored on a 3rd party server, which means it can be reused, and beyond being able to work in the same browser page, there are zero integration issues.
  • The architecture is machine scalable. If Mashet A is servered up from Server A, Mashet B can be servered up from Server B. If you want more mashets and scale is an issue, just add more servers.
  • Mashets dramatically lower risk. Kim Cameron puts it this way in his seminal paper “The Laws of Identity”: To mitigate risk, it is best to acquire information only on a “need to know” basis, and to retain it only on a “need to retain” basis.
  • With Majikwidget, Guy and Mike have invented an amazing new way of motivating people to contribute to their platform. They call it Linkware. The idea is simple. Come up with an idea for a widget (aka mashet) and a link to your site will be included in every instance of that widget. Users can choose to opt out of having the link, but you must opt out.

So, how is it that Guy is trying to take over the blogosphere?

A link back to Guy’s site has been placed at the bottom of every Stars and Poll Majikwidget. Imagine that. My guess is that many bloggers are going to start adding these widgets into their posts. Further, I believe that once they do, the most populat widgets will be Polls and “Rank the quality of this post” widgets, like the Stars Widget.

Is Guy trying to take over the blogosphere? I think so. Or at least, he is trying to make it into Technorati’s list of top 10 bloggers. If by doing so, he comes up with amazing tools like MajikWidget, well, I’m all for it.

Just call me Mini Kawasaki.

UPDATE:

Jordan Christensen says that all the extra links from the MajikWidget linkware idea won’t succeed in bumping Technorati or Google rankings because the search engines ingore whatever is in an iframe.

I am sure Jordan is right about how the search engines work. But, that’s where good honest first rate content comes in. Guy writes a great blog, as does Jordan. Even if the linkware links don’t directly bump rankings, they create traffic. If you have great content, that’ll lead to comments, trackbacks, or even whole blog posts.

As my friend Tom says: You got to bring some, to get some.

I don’t think anyone can take over the blogosphere

well…maybe the American blogosphere… but the non-English blogosphere is the one that’s registering faster growth …

But then very few things that I have thought have come true…so maybe GK is the one to take over the blogoshere !

    Hey Gautam,

Thanks for the comment - it is very cool to see how much the non English blogosphere is coming into its own.

Yeah - while I am sure that Guy is not literally trying to take over the Blogosphere, the MajikWidget idea could easily appear on thousands if not millions of blogs.

    Not millions…maybe only thousands :)

Most non-geeks who blog don’t like to play around with the templates too much :-)) (I am also a non-geek!) and these are the people who are embracing blogging in a big way too.

And I think Technorati and other blog search tools could easily ensure that these links are not taken to calculate the rank :-))

That’s the amazing thing about these new widgets. You do not have to know anything about templates to use them.

You can just cut and paste them directly into your post.
