Blogs and Wikis pass 1.0 Tech on Google Trends
Today, people are searching for “blog” and “wiki” on Google than they are searching for “email”, IM” and “Excel”.
In other words, Web 2.0 technology is more popular than Office 1.0 communication technology.

The comparison against Lotus Notes is even more dramatic.

There you go Rod … apples and oranges.
Don’t you think that blogs are searched for on google because people want to find a particular blog and can’t remember the URL? I’ve just done that using “rod boothby blog” and it works pretty well. I don’t tend to search for email addresses that way but that doesn’t mean I don’t use e-mail.
If you look at the same data by region you’ll note that in the US and Canada, “email” still tops “blog”.
If you look at the same data by language you’ll note that in English, “email” still tops “blog”.
It looks like Peru is full of people looking for blogs and I would guess that “im” is actually a German word?!
Saying “Web 2.0 technology is more popular than Office 1.0 communication technology” is certainly not proved by that data. I think we’d agree though that the trend for Web 2.0 technology is upwards.
With regard to Lotus Notes, I wasn’t sure what your point was? I develop using Lotus Notes. I use Lotus Notes e-mail. My blog is in Notes and there are wikis developed in Notes. Lotus also does IM extremely well. So what?
All those Google searches for blogs & wikis are from spambots. Duh.
Please fix your “remember personal info” in your comments. Sure makes your site anti-social that it can’t remember me.
Well Rod, you’ve certainly given me a laugh today. Most people would be embarassed to show such a lack of logic in their blog postings, especially given the way you’ve riled the Lotus community these last weeks…
Some interesting results:
Google hits for “blogs suck”… 32,800
Google hits for “Lotus Notes sucks”… 9,840
Google hits for “wikis suck”… 2,470
Interesting, but utterly meaningless.
