An Introduction to Your New Role as an Innovation Creator

When did you first begin to write web pages? Have you started yet? You will. It will be part of your job, no matter what kind of work you do.

Every day of your working life, you will contribute to web pages called blogs. For the last few years, these blogs have existed on the public internet. They have been used by geeks, political hacks, artists sharing photos, a few real journalists and a bunch of high-school students writing live diaries.

Soon, growth orientated companies will start to use a new wave of innovative web based tools to empower their knowledge workers. These tools are different from the web pages you are used to because they are designed to help you create, rather than simply consume.

For the last decade you have been getting your news online, you have bought things online, you have filed your taxes online, you have searched for directions, maybe even tried to find love. However, aside from a few classified ads on Craigslist or eBay, and several thousand emails to a limited audience, you have not been creating messages designed to be broadcast to the whole world.

For the last decade, you have only consumed and communicated directly with small groups. This will change as companies start to use a new more interactive class of web-based tools. These new web applications will help you stand up and broadcast to the world, or at least to everyone in your company.

By telling people who you are, and what you are trying to accomplish, you will gain a new ownership over the projects you are trying to complete, and you will be given a new power to find the support and cooperation you need to make things happen, enact change and generate positive, profitable results. You will stop being a knowledge worker, endlessly repeating tasks. You will become an innovation creator and an internal entrepreneur.
